Biannual Flight Review

Just as you have to renew your drivers' license, you have to renew your pilots' license.  The difference is your pilot's license needs to be renewed every two years by taking a Biannual Flight Review (BFR).  If you have a foreign pilots' license and you received a restricted USA license, then you will need to take a BFR before the restricted license is valid.  You can accomplish this by scheduling at least one hour of ground and one hour of flight with a FAA certified flight instructor. You will cover topics such as aerodynamics, airport operations, radio communications, aircraft systems, regulations, navigation, weather theory and reports.  Once you have demonstrated through knowledge of these topics, you will proceed to the flight portion of the review where you will demonstrate all the maneuvers covered in the private pilot checkride plus any maneuvers the instructor deems necessary.  Remember, any additional rating will substitute for a BFR.

Prerequisite: Private Pilot License.

Time Frame: About 2 - 3 hours.

Curriculum: One hour of ground covering the private pilot basics and one hour of private pilot maneuvers.

Cost: Approximately $250 to $500, depending on aircraft selected and training hours flown.
